
Nursery Technician
Limagrain Cereals Research Canada (LCRC) is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Nursery Technician in a full-time role. This hands-on research operations role supports plant breeding and pathology programs through active involvement in early generation nursery activities and disease screening. It is well-suited for individuals who enjoy working directly in the field and in controlled environments, managing multiple tasks across the production cycle. The successful candidate will contribute to nursery workflows, support coordinating pathology-related activities, and collaborate across teams to support breeding objectives. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to problem-solving are essential.

Essential duties and responsibilities
- The successful candidate must be willing to work outdoors, work extended hours during the growing season, and be willing to travel outside of the Saskatoon area.
- Support a field-oriented plant pathology program that services various crop types within the breeding organization
- Manage and execute tasks, including but not limited to seed packaging, planting, pathogen culture, inoculation, note-taking, visual ratings, and harvest
- Assist in conducting experiments, which include planting, scouting, coordination of activities, crop care, and timely note-taking
- Collaborate across breeding, pathology, and the operations team to ensure alignment of nursery activities with broader research and production goals
- Assist in organizing the inventory of seeds in storage
- Supervising and training seasonal employees
- Perform media preparation and stock solutions.
- Support with growth chamber experiments, including cleaning, seeding, inoculating, rating, and general plant care

Qualifications Required
- A degree or diploma in agriculture or a related field of study, and experience
- Experience with Microsoft Office 365
- Possess a valid driver’s license
- Ability to lift 50 lbs.
Qualifications preferred
- Educational experience in plant science, agronomy, horticulture, or a related discipline is desired. Applicants with equivalent job experience are also encouraged to apply.
- Experience with aseptic techniques, plant pathogen isolation, and laboratory practices
- Experience working in an agricultural research setting
- Experience operating small, powered equipment or common hand tools
